Sound familiar?

It's 5:47 pm. Dinner is another job.

The last meeting ran over. Everyone's hungry. A proper dinner sounds good. Choosing recipes, checking the fridge and finding time to prep feels like a second shift.

  • The planning after work.

You finish one workday, then start choosing recipes, checking ingredients and writing a list.

  • The same quick fix.

You love good food. A packed calendar keeps sending you back to the same few dinners.

  • Everyone's preferences.

Different tastes, diets and appetites turn one dinner into several sets of decisions.

  • The prep you didn't plan.

You open the recipe and find chopping, thawing and a sauce you could have started yesterday.

Give the planning to your AI chef. Keep the pleasure of a really good dinner.

Split Plates

One shared dish. Made for everyone.

Shared cooking, personal finishes. Cajun chicken for one, blackened mushrooms for another — one satisfying dinner, with everyone's differences worked out ahead.

  • One shopping list, one spice blend, one pot of sauce. The fork happens only where it has to.
  • Diets, allergies and dislikes per person. Vegetarian, gluten-free, no shellfish, “hates cilantro” — each diner's plate follows their rules.
  • Strict means the whole table. If someone has a strict allergy, it stays off every plate that night, including products that often carry “may contain” warnings. For diets like vegetarian and milder restrictions, follow the recipe's cooking order and pan instructions for each version.

Safety & trust

Allergies are rules, not preferences.

Mark an allergy as strict and Gastroque treats it as a hard rule — from the first menu sketch to the last garnish. Every recipe is checked against every diner before you see it. These checks are on every plan, including Free.

  • Strict means strict

Strict allergies exclude the allergen and the ingredients that commonly hide it: pesto (tree nuts, dairy), Worcestershire sauce (fish), fish sauce (fish), soy sauce and miso (soy, often wheat).

  • The whole table, not just one plate

On nights a strict-allergy diner eats, the allergen stays off everyone's plate. For diets, intolerances and dislikes, follow each version's cooking order, pan instructions and utensil guidance.

  • Flagged, not hidden

Products that often carry “may contain” warnings — spice blends, chocolate, granola, some breads — are kept out for strict allergies and flagged for everyone else, so you know to check the label.

  • Checked before you see it

Every recipe passes an automatic allergen and diet audit for the people eating it. If something fails, it's fixed before it reaches your plan.

Example: how a recipe header reads for a table with a strict peanut allergy.

The details, handled

Less to keep in your head.

Your AI chef handles the list-making: ingredients combined across the week, rounded to real packages and sorted by aisle, minus what you already have. Tick items off in the store or send the list to your partner.

  1. 1

Combined: onions from three recipes become one line.

  2. 2

Pantry-aware: “You already have olive oil” — so it's not on the list.

  3. 3

Rounded to real packages: buy one wedge of parmesan; we'll remember the rest for next week.

Restaurant-level, not restaurant-pretentious.

The details that make dinner better.

A good sear, balanced seasoning and a well-finished sauce make familiar ingredients taste better. Clear cues help you get there, with ambition set to suit the evening.

  • Technique

Proper sears and pan sauces, explained clearly so you know what to do and when.

  • Balance

  • Plating

Simple finishing touches for a dinner you'd be pleased to serve.

  • Chef's notes

A proper restaurant plate

Take the pan off the heat before the parmesan goes in. Cheese hates boiling — at a simmer it seizes into clumps. Off the heat, with a splash of starchy pasta water, it melts into silk. That pasta water is the secret ingredient most recipes forget to mention.

Questions, answered

Before you start.

Is it really restaurant-level?

Restaurant-level means a proper pan sauce, a good sear and seasoning that brings a dish together. The recipes fit your equipment, skill level and available time. Beginners get fewer components and more guidance. Cook Mode walks you through one step at a time with timers, and the chef's notes explain why each step matters. Save the more ambitious dishes for nights when you have room.

Gastroque isn't affiliated with Michelin or the MICHELIN Guide.

Will my family actually eat this?

The menu starts with their tastes, diets and dislikes. Split Plates gives each person their own finish on a shared dish: mild for the seven-year-old, extra heat for the chili lover, no mushrooms for the one who'd rather not. Rate dinner thumbs-up or thumbs-down for your table. A thumbs-down recipe is never served again, and on Plus and Pro next week leans into what landed.

One of us is vegetarian and one isn't. Do I cook two dinners?

No — that's what Split Plates is for. You cook one dish with a shared base and finish each plate differently: Cajun chicken for one, blackened mushrooms for the other. Follow the recipe's cooking order and pan instructions for each version. One list, one shared base.

Someone at our table has a food allergy. Can I trust this?

Allergies are hard rules, not preferences. Mark one strict and we keep the allergen and its common hidden sources off everyone's plate that night, along with products that often carry “may contain” warnings, and every recipe is checked against every diner before you see it. Those checks are on every plan, including Free. Products change, so read the label of every packaged ingredient, and follow your allergist's advice for severe allergies. Always verify labels — AI can make mistakes.

I don't have time to cook every night.

Choose the nights you want to cook and the time you're willing to spend. Keep the other nights free for leftovers, eating out or whatever life needs. You do the cooking; Gastroque handles the decisions and preparation plan. Recipes show active and total time up front, so you can see where the work goes. On Plus, Bonus prep and an optional Prep Day group useful tasks ahead of busy nights, with storage instructions for what you've prepared.

I've tried meal planners. I always fall off by Wednesday.

The plan can change with your week. On Plus, next week's menu is drafted for you every Friday. A quick Pantry Check-in (about 30 seconds) keeps the list honest. Late meeting? Skip a night, move a dinner or swap a dish, and the plan re-flows. Keep the meals you want and adjust the rest.

What does it cost, and what's the catch with free?

Taster is free with no time limit: one dinner a week for up to 2 people, Split Plates included, plus the whole Library. Plus is $12.99 a month or $99 a year (less than $2 a week); Pro — Chef's Table is $24.99 a month or $199 a year. New households can try Plus free for at least 7 days, including their first planned week. No card, and nothing renews automatically. The prices shown apply once payments are enabled.

Do I have to remember to cancel?

No. There's no card on file and nothing renews automatically. When your free trial ends you move to Taster, with your recipes, ratings and favorites saved. Before payments are enabled we'll email you, and nothing is charged unless you choose a plan and add a card.

Can't I just ask a chatbot for recipes?

Gastroque acts as your kitchen manager: it keeps your household's tastes, schedule and cooking plan together. Every plate is checked against each diner's diet and allergies before you see it, the recipes become one shopping list minus your pantry, Thursday's onion is scheduled into Monday's prep, and your ratings shape the next menu. Always verify labels — AI can make mistakes.

Is my data private?

No ads in Gastroque, and we never sell your data. Diet and allergy details are used only to plan your meals. Kids are saved by first name or nickname and age group — no birthdays. Export or delete everything, anytime, in Settings → Privacy.
